'Bugs in Sci-publishing as big a Car~'Bug of Beetle'
The focus here is on a different 'BUG STORY' than ‘Bug of Beetle' of recent time. But only to emphasise how critical they cause on interpretation of images is the reason why I treat them as Bugs as Big. The images in-fact a form of scientific data so it has to be treated dangerous for it distort scientific inference arrived through hard work.To what extent they have impaired on images already published is so huge to explore.
a small intro before proceeding to details on image-processing. The service I provide relates to Auto image-processing in Batch. Each image is processed in different edits and out-put as four possible variations of correction as good or even better than manual process in seconds. we all have a natural tendency to judge better by comparing all images tiled on a page than we could images analysed individually. In essence this improves efficiency in a Graphic work-flow or they could even be used as reference at QC or a graphics that relies on manual process.
To start with Once small discussion on aspect of Display settings and how colour can be mishandled due to eci-RGB as working colour space in image editors before dealing with colour-grading.
An image edited as viewed on the monitor while display setting and colour profile mishandled an edit amounts only to 'Blind Edit'.
Firstly here are some aspects on checking a monitor with basic test with a set of images of Apple.
View this composite image with a graphic editor and the image in display enlarged to the width of the monitor [pref above 20inchs] in a room with dark ambiance. The monitor is OK if the details in the shadow area are discernible with image:D that meant for colour-grading and C,D are for image -process. On comparing images the image:A should not appear too light and details of high-lights are retained. But if the differences in appearance among images B,C and D are not much it mean that you are using TN panel and its time to change to monitors with IPS panel.
*This an unconventional and non-standard method but as a simple way of testing.
I have created this as it provides valid inference on factual and we see why its critical:
an incident where I shown this composite image to a team head of graphics for evaluation and he points out only the image:A among the four [A,B,C,D] appears good on their monitors. It says a severe flaw in 90% of the other monitors in Graphics were either not set properly or poor standard. Please use this test image to check which one is right on your monitor.
Then comparison between image:E and F shows how colour changes or exaggerated when Working colour space is set to eci-RGB in colour management policy. The parameter of scientific image processing is primarily to edit the tone than they are sent to change Hue.

Adopting my Pre-Grading initiative in your Post production is a support to introduce new matting technique to the industry .
Many of these is are just fresh out put than images tonally fine tuned . you might differ with our processed image right side . in all cases just zoom to full size of your monitor of size 22" and beyond. watch how your opinion would change magically. This is from Yanni Live at El Morro 2012 cropped from a frame just 720 pix in height. Still it retains tonal quality and sharpness despite as much activity takes place like an action movie. It makes me think that the cameras were anticipating... I mean a capture at high shutter speed as per basic norms of photography is followed. Many of us don't have purpose to look at frame wise, but movies in general are lagging on this aspect probably technology is yet to advance. Adobe came out with soft ware solution to 'UNBLUR' the images resulting from action.
Another option pertains to My flash-selection matting that gives priority to flash sync at high shutter speed proposed in year 2003. Transposing the sharpness of exposure with flash into the frames of normal exposure is a possibility. info at my landing page

A solution to noticeable yellowish overall or skin tone and darkness in a movie.
Production cameras now relying on wide Dynamic range and Raw capture for higher picture quality. Raw format though providing more scope for refinements, poses difficulty for a colourist to transpose this wide gamut into a narrow one. Tone-mapping only reminds me of tonal distortion with gothic look. My solution reasons a different factor than blaming the monitor or its profiling, the skill of colourist or the conversion stages generally assumed to be causing this. It is the magenta red colour of face, the cheek in specific which encourages more addition of yellow as we use face as the reference for colour correction. It narrows down to ICC profile to be the cause. So I modified the ICC profile, of preferred OS platform of graphic artists. It also required further assign & conversion steps of profile along with other steps of editing to finally bring out an optimally corrected output. Of course we could also under-correct it for a different look.
COULD GUESS WHICH ONE IS ORIGINAL ?

Note: preferably a modern LCD calibrated monitor of 22”~24”, at an ambiance of very subdued room lighting with no distraction from glare as background or white border and zoom the downloaded PDF to 300% are recommended as the viewing conditions for this Document. Zooming brings forth better judgment of image comparison . I have intentionally restrained applying local correction or sharpness on images.
Our “PREGRADING” complements CG ['COLOUR GRADING'] in post production. My intension is frame wise optimisation with auto image processing that I have devised. In this process all the frames of a movie footage are extracted as individual images and treated with optimal tonal correction as we do for images in professional still photography and merge them back into a movie, video. Hence it assures maintaining high quality is and makes further correction easier at Grading.
But for this demonstration, many of the images used here are already been enhanced [graded] and I have left only with an option to treat them as original which are placed on the left side of this document. The comparative images on right side proves feasibility of some more improvisation with better quality as I have and speaks about the efficiency of the process.
Most of the images here are only an extract from sources like Blueray or downloaded. An un-manipulated Raw image contains all information except that they would look very dull due to low contrast [gamma] at capture. The following image captured with “RED-DRAGON” movie camera at ISO: 3200 is technically a perfect image though we need to improvise it to look visually appealing. This raw image is edited without the camera profile provided. But a camera manufacturer could only be expected to provide a generic correction. It's merely the gut feeling that could guide us finally.
Sometimes it would be surprising that an image appears to be requiring simple correction, though it actually needs a big effort like the here added picture of grandma, than the following an 'optimally exposed' a Raw image with 'Red-Dragon' camera, that looks as if high skill is required.

This image is a frame extracted from the animation film Rango like the other subsequent two images of still photography sets an example of superior quality. These images allow a room for further correction with my auto image enhancement process that could apply only the necessary correction apart from producing an output that has a 3D look.
The three images below show how the intended pattern of lighting is enhanced with our edit, apart from improved tonal quality and colour maintained. It can be noticed in all our edits the highlights are drawn in to prevent from getting burned at the same time not compromising the dark tones become too dark.
by reducing contrast, saturation and pulling down the highlights, creates an ambiance to support the story. the background gets the feel of receding farther back.
not a High res or an HDR. I wish I could find an explanation as to why an image like this so alive and surgically clean not have place in a movie.
I could immediately read the mind of the enthusiasm, dedication of the photographer behind this wedding photograph. Not a child's play as one might assume. I have included this photograph, for his intension behind in controlling tones, the thematic lighting he wish to impose in broad Day-Light. He managed to have gone to the extend in executing the shot with flash sync at 1/1600th.sec that only aSchneider lens is capable. No DSLR to date has improved flash sync beyond 1/500th. A Rollei TLRCamera in early 60's had flash sync at 1/500 with leaf shutter.
In my early youth year 1980 I use to take photograph with flash extension cord inorder to get closer to the subject with Nikon F2AS with only a maximum flash sync speed at 1/80.sec those days. Later I could able to increase the speed by a factor equivalent to 2stops with medium format cameras Like Mamiya RB67, Bronica etc., thanks to leaf shutter.

Constant nagging to camera manufactures has resulted introduction of such lenses with leaf-shutter. I could easily be one among those photographers for such pursuit. I just renewed my efforts as the situation now has improving in this one decade.

One of the other improvement for real on my way is LED lighting and super Capacitor. LED has no filament, warm uptime. I see it in the place of a Flash. Cinematographers has a reason to think and only that way that cinematography is feasible in continuous like. But I have different plans. I still say it Flash-Selection a matting technique. Flash-selection matting I had proposed not only favours a matting to transpose Background but also improvise the lighting better at post production that you see here. Also control such lighting as this at noon out door both in still and cinematography.
Wondered why not easy to locate on Google for Flash-selection, but more popular as Flash-matting which is simply a Rechristened version by MS who has plagiarised my ideas. What they patented simply is Obsolete. They become liable for infringement now if the criterion or clause are changed.

[B] Busy cameraman, huge investment lying idle on upgrading equipment doesn't bother you
[C] You might have been overtaken Still you are very evaluative not simply nostalgic
[D] Inventive, your Goals are well planned, but you may find difficult to convince others
Simply Why not a blend between imag A and D. I mean a merger between a Movie camera like Blackmagic studio and a 645medium format like Pentax 645. A movie camera modular to accomodate & to adopt 645 sensor and the zoom lenses already invested in 35mm. Among one of the desirous aspect for me is the flash sync @1/1800th sec.
what is happening to the capture side of hard ware, the camera, Lenses be it a still or video? The name of the Game is Revolution
I watch all the attention of cinematographers been diverted towards a passion that is high definition 4K,8K etc_my humble observation, my be this looked upon as no relevancy here.But its only my persue to create awareness.
Downscale from 8x10>35mm film > even to a much smaller size when Digital came up >still called Revolution.
They have finished marketing and now say Full-frame the norm. New trend upscaling to Fulframe,645, HD4k should this be observed as an Evolution?
No wonder baton will pass to 645 format [sure] and the camera manufacturers without any regret will be saying 645 as Default. Cameras, and lenses in vast numbers were already junked and continues to be in the name of upgrading. It always has been a business for camera manufactures.
I wish no more small sensors, An intelligent solution and once for good approach is to adopt to 645 strategy that could increase lifespan of investment Camera& Lenses to extend beyond 10~15 years the minimum. Now Pentax 645 capable 56Mb capture, with HD and 4K capability announced. Why not all cameras be it movie or still adopts to this format a 645. So far that’s good we at least see a convergence of movie and still photography in one pack, I hope it's going to be one 645 format camera
I can hear someone questioning about difficulty of designing zoom lenses for 645. With a pixel content of 645 we could as well have digital zooming on stage without sacrificing quality. Which I hope would also maintain Depth of field to remain constant on zooming. It also means zoom lenses with a small zoom factor would be sufficient. Yes zoom lenses with bigger circle of definition is a manufacturing task.Its better than telling Now launching a Newly designed 50mm f1.4 lens
